We greatly thank you for all of your participation and support
for the 2011 edition of Field Day! The weather was beautiful
and the day was a blast. Teams arrived early and set up camp at
USF, Tampa. Everyone was showing their team spirit with great
tent decorations and costumes. The best costume trophy went to
Busch League after much debate, the best tent went to the Angry
Carrots, and the best Spirit award went to SCEC. Congrats to
all of you and thank you all for your amazing creativity!
The day was dedicated to raising money for Special Olympics and
all they do. The teams did great with the Charity Challenge
raising money ahead of time with Swamp Donkeys getting the most,
$1000! The beer was kindly provided by MGD 64 and wraps were
donated by GrillSmith – thank you! With the Charity Challenge,
beer sales, and food sales Special Olympics was able to raise a
total of $4322 – awesome! We also want to thank our other
sponsors that made the day possible, including Rasmussen
College, FC Tampa Bay, Creative Loafing, Red Bull, and
Clearchannel Digital!
The competition was fun, wacky, and intense. We had some amazing
showings in a few of our tweaked events, including the Xtreme
Team Dash which tested teams’ strategy, speed, brains, and
brawn.
For the best part of Field Day the action on the lanes was more
fun than ever! Not many were still standing after the Dizzy Bat
Spin - always a classic sending people crashing all over. In the
end the water balloon toss ended the day in fantastic fashion
with 4 teams going out all on the final throw! In all, there
were 11 events testing the meddle of all the competitors.
Many teams had great showings, but three teams topped them all.
Chicks and Sticks muscled their way into the top three by taking
third place…which for their first year participating is VERY
impressive!. Strange Brew pushed hard and won themselves second
place, but it was Quack Pack, who leveraged their experience,
that would win its 3rd straight Field Day
championship title and bring home the big trophy.
We hope to see all the teams back for Field Day 2012. Thank you
to Creative Loafing and MGD64! |
