A late rush got the
poker field up to a respectable 28 players on Friday night at Derby
Lane. The beer and cards flowed quickly and a good 45 minutes went by
before the first casualty of the night Brain Greer took the walk of
shame with his “first out” prize. Final table finally got down to 4
players, and with the players being paid, no one wanted to be “bubble
boy” so when the chip stacks got close to level Mitch Claveaux, Tim
Mogelgaard, Christopher Alverson and Dan Smith agreed to chop up the
total purse of $924 ($231) each. Congratulations go out to Dan Smith,
who pulled out possibly the greatest come from behind story in Club
Sport poker history when after being forced into the big blind with only
one remaining purple chip (only 500 of the 2000 unit big blind) he
doubled up multiple times to get back in the hunt and then played out
the cards after chopping to take home 1st place the coveted
Club Sport poker trophy! In the 2nd chance game, Mark
Donahue “sucked out” for an aces over full boat on the river so best
Brian Camp. Mark walked out with $220, while Brian got $110 for his
efforts. Stay tuned and sign up now for our next tournament in mid/late
October!
