Club Sport’s longest running event, the
Showdown at the Playground kickball tournament, continued its annual
tradition this past Saturday, December 10. The 14th edition
of the event hosted a record 36 teams, and for the first time was broken
into competitive and recreational divisions.
In the rec division, a pair of newcomers
made it through group play and two playoff rounds to reach the
championship game. Competitive at Drinking and Mustache Riders went a
combined 9-1 before meeting in the finals. Competitive at Drinking held
the lead for most of the game, coming away with a 10-4 win.
On the competitive side, perennial
tournament powerhouse Huge In Japan ran through pool play unbeaten.
Their opponent in the finals was 50 Money, in what was a rematch from
the two teams’ first match of the day. At 10:00, Huge In Japan
beat 50 Money 12-9 and when the two teams met seven hours later, the
game ended with a similar result, as Huge In Japan earned a 8-6 win.
The beer was flowing at Elmer’s during the
after party, as teams enjoyed free beer while reminiscing about the
day’s events. There was good conversation and plenty of flip cup being
played.
We’d like to thank all the players that came
out to play, and a special thanks to those that helped support
CureSearch for Children’s Cancer. The 50/50 raffle netted $560! One of
our sponsors, Rasmussen College, supplied goodies for players including
glow sticks and lanyards, while another sponsor, Universal Studios,
supplied DVD copies of “Cowboys and Aliens”, which is also available now
on digital download and BluRay!

Congrats to the winners, and once again
thanks to all that came out and enjoyed a great event! We’ll see you
all next year!
