On a perfect October
day, 14 teams took to the fields last Saturday to compete in Club
Sport’s 8th annual Fall Classic softball tournament at the
Eddie C. Moore Complex. After a full day of games, Kaos came away as
the competitive division champion, while South East won the rec division
title.
Pool play kicked off at
9:00 a.m. and concluded at 3:00 with eight teams advancing to the
playoffs-four in the rec division and four in the competitive division.
In the rec playoffs, South East pulled off a last-inning comeback and
walked off with a win over Club Sport All-Stars. Always On Top earned a
hard fought victory in the other semi-final over Bomb Squad. In the
end, Always On Top ended up on bottom, however, falling 13-11 to South
East in the finals.
The competitive
division saw Pete & Shorty’s knock off top seeded Backdoor Sliders in
the semi-finals. After getting out to an early 10-0, Pete & Shorty’s
held on for a 15-14 win. On the other side of the bracket, Kaos had
little trouble with Looking To Score, picking up a blowout victory, then
holding off Pete & Shorty’s 10-9 to win the competitive championship.
After the tournament,
Pete & Shorty’s joined the other 13 teams at their sponsor bar, which
hosted the tournament after party for the seventh time in the history of
the Fall Classic. Players enjoyed free beer and cornhole throughout the
evening, while recounting the day’s events.
