club sport ULTIMATE RULES  Revised 05/05

The basic rules of Ultimate are as follows:

  • The Field is rectangular in shape with endzones at each end.  Standard size is 70 yds long and 40 yds wide with endzones 15 yds deep.

  • Each Point begins with a "pull" with both teams in their respective endzones and the defensive team throwing the disc to the offensive team.

  • The disc may be advanced by completion of passes in any direction in the field of play.  Players may not advance while in possession of the disc.  Once marked, the Thrower has 10 seconds to attempt a pass to a teammate.  The Marker is responsible for counting out the stall count.

  • Points are scored by a player completing a pass to a teammate in the endzone.  After each point, teams switch directions and start a new point.

  • When a pass is not completed (whether by drop, block, interception or player not catching inbounds), possession is lost by the offensive team.  Play immediately begins with the offensive team now becoming the defensive team and vice versa.

  • Substitutions are allowed after a point has been scored, at the end of a half, or during an injury timeout ONLY.

  • Physical contact between players is NOT allowed.  Any contact initiated by a player will constitute a foul.  This includes picks and screens.

  • When a foul disrupts possession, the play is resumed as if possession had been retained.  If a foul is disputed, play is redone.

  • Players are responsible for their own line and foul calls.  Players are also responsible for resolving their own disputes.

  • Ultimate stresses fair play and sportsmanship.  Competitive play is encouraged, but never at the expense of respect between players, adherence to the rules, and the basic joy of play.

  1. COED TEAMS will be made up of a recommended minimum of 12 players, 7 players on the field. COED ratio 5 men and 2 women on the field with at least one female on the field at all times and no more than 5 men. A minimum of 4 players from the team's roster must be present or the team will forfeit the game.

  2. PICKUP PLAYERS. Pickup players are NOT allowed in the tournament. Any pickup players must be signed on a TBCS roster for a team that plays on the same night. Pickups must be brought to the attention of the referee BEFORE the game or a forfeit may be issued. Teams may pickup up to one player at no penalty in order to field a minimum team number. Any pickups in addition to this or any over the minimum team number  will result in a 1 point penalty per player. If more players from your team show up to allow subs, the free pickup player must be removed or the 1 point penalty taken.

  3. ADDING TO YOUR TEAM Club Sport has the right to add to your team until you reach the advertised minimum number of players. If you wish to have less you may buy extra roster spots at the membership rate or pay the team price. If you wish to have more you may, you just need to advise the TBCS office prior to league payment to reserve spots.

  4. DURATION  All games will consist of two 25 minute halves, to be separated by a 5 minute halftime.  The point in play at the end of each half will be completed.  Games CAN end in a tie during the regular season.  If, for any reason, the game should be cancelled with more than half of the game played, the game and the score is considered final.

  5. TOURNAMENT games may have two additional 5 minute overtime periods added to the end of the game should regulation end in a tie.  At the end of either overtime period, the team leading will be declared the winner.  If the second overtime period ends in a tie, the first team to score in the third overtime will win.

  6. ADDING TO THE ROSTER If you need to add players to your roster during the season you may do so at a prorated rate, contact the TBCS office for details.

  7. ELIGIBLE PLAYERS All players, including added players, must sign the roster waiver BEFORE the final game of the season in order to be eligible to play in the tournament. If a player is not signed in on the roster by then, they are not eligible for the tournament. Playing with ineligible players may result in a forfeit. This call will be made by TBCS staff.

  8. REFUNDS TBCS is not responsible for any refunds at any time during the season. If a party cannot continue the season, is the responsibility of that party to replace themselves on the roster if they so choose. Also they must notify the TBCS office of the change.

  9. TOURNAMENT SEEDINGS will be based on the following criteria: 1) overall won-lost-tie percentage, 2) head-to-head play, 3) overall won-lost-tie percentage in division (if divisional play is mixed), 4) best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed, 5) highest average points scored in common games, 6) highest average points scored total, 7) coin flip
